In January 2024, the Plastic Reduction Alliance of Northwest Indiana hosted a compelling presentation by Dr. Julie Peller, a chemistry professor and environmental researcher at Valparaiso University. Dr. Peller's talk, titled "Church Teaching on Our Responsibility to Care for the Environment," was held at Our Lady of Consolation in Merrillville. She emphasized the inseparable connection between her Catholic faith and scientific work, highlighting the urgent need to address environmental challenges for the sake of future generations. Dr. Peller provided insightful scientific data on issues such as climate change, pollution, and the consequences of single-use plastics, while also sharing actionable steps individuals can take to mitigate these problems. This event exemplifies our commitment to educating and empowering the community through informative presentations that inspire environmental stewardship.
