About PRA

Our Mission:

The Plastic Reduction Alliance of Northwest Indiana (also referred to as PRA) is an organization committed to working on the plastic waste problem and highlighting the latest research on plastics. We look to develop partnerships, programs and events that will promote cleaner and healthier communities, mainly through reductions in plastic and promotions of safer materials.

Plastic pollution free world is not a choice but a commitment to life – a commitment to the next generation.
— Amit Ray

The Plastic Reduction Alliance (PRA) of NWI was formed to:

  • Raise awareness about plastics and their harmful impacts.

  • Partner with interested people/organizations for solutions to reduce plastic, especially single-use plastic.

  • Engage with local governments, schools (youth!), local businesses and organizations.

  • Educate, organize and support actions toward a healthier environment.

  • Share valuable science research supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

We humans have become so dependent on plastics for a range of uses, from packaging to products. Reducing our use of plastic bags is an easy place to start getting our addiction out of control.
— David Suzuki

The United Nations describes plastic waste as one part of the triple planetary threat for future generations.

There are limited options for unwanted plastic materials.

Half of all plastic ever made was manufactured the past 20 years! We do not need all this plastic and it is harming our environment and our health.
